SAND FOR FOUNDRIES
Foundry sand
At Brogårdsand, we produce and refine a natural sand, so that it will function as foundry sand for foundry molds and cores, for a large number of iron and metal foundries in Sweden and Norway.
Sand that keeps its shape and withstands the heat
Our foundry sand’s mineralogical composition, with a unique mixture of approx. 80% quartz and 20% feldspar, creates optimal conditions for casting with complicated sand mold constructions. The reason for this is that quartz has a high sintering temperature (melting point), while feldspar has low expansion.
Since it is important that the sand in the sand cores expand as little as possible and still not melt on contact with the hot, molten iron, this mineralogical combination offers great advantages over pure quartz sand.
This means that the risk of cracking is minimized during casting, and that there is therefore less cleaning work and spillage in the foundry. The natural roundness of the sand grains also means that the mold holds together with a smaller amount of binder. The purity of the sand, low moisture content and the delivery temperature of 30–40 degrees also result in lower reprocessing costs. Brogårdsand’s foundry sand and industrial sand are available in a number of standard fractions and special qualities, and are marketed by G&L Beijer Industri AB, which sells machinery and supplies for heavy industry.
